Juliet, Naked UK-USA, 2018. dir. Jesse Peretz, 118 mins. Distributor: Elevation Pictures Dates and Venues Opens Aug 31st. Various Cinemas Reviewer Ed Farolan It´s rare these days to have a film like this one. Most films we see deal with sex, violence, horror. We no longer have those wholesome films of yore. Juliet, Naked is the exception to the rule: it´s an unpretentious and delightful film. Based on the novel of Nick Hornby, this romantic comedy is about Annie (Rose Byrne) who gets to meet Tucker Crowe (Ethan Hawke) through email, and a transatlantic intercontinental relationship begins. The funny part is Annie is the boyfriend of Duncan (Chris O´Dowd), a super-fan of Crowe who was once a popular folk rocker. The film title is the last song Crowe wrote before he disappeared. We find out in the film why he left the limelight all of a sudden. Hawke, Byrne and O´Dowd are really good and played their parts extremely well. I recommend you go out and see this delightful film. It premiered at the Sundance Festival last January and got fairly good reviews. © 2018 Ed Farolan
