This was the world premiere of an original production by Coastal City Ballet set to the music of Sergei Prokofiev and choreographed by Irene Schneider. It is the the fourth full-length story ballet since the company's formation in 2011, which brings the number to three in the Greater Vancouver area. The other two are Ballet BC which focuses more on modern ballet, and Goh Ballet which is known for its annual Nutcracker.

The performers were greeted by a rousing standing ovation at the Surrey Arts Centre. Tickets were sold out for this performance. What a wonderful show! Choreography at its best! And what talented dancers: the grace and flowing movements of Eric Burrough (Prince Charming) and Erin McNeill (Cinderella); the clowning around of Lucita Munaretto (Drizella) and Emilie Siqueira (Anastasia), the step-sisters of Cinderella, drawing laughter from the audience; the elegance and delicacy in the dance moves of the Fairies...this was indeed a production worthy of being presented in the ballet theatres of Europe.

Kudos to Artistic Director Li Yaming, the dancers and the entire production staff for a fantastic and brilliant production. I look forward to their future productions.
