Mary Poppins is alive and well and thriving at The Stanley!

When the character of Mary Poppins asserts, in her self-assured way, that she is very nearly perfect, she speaks not only for her character, but for the production offered by the Arts Club at The Stanley this Christmas season.

This return engagement stars many of the same performers as last year’s show, including Sara-Jeanne Hosie in the title role, Scott Walters as the lovable Bert, Caitriona Murphy and Warren Kimmel as Winifred and George Banks, and Kassia Danielle Malmquist and Graham Verchere as their children, Jane and Michael. Bill Millerd’s fine directorial skills were tested, proven and enhanced by the superb talents of these, and indeed, all the performers in this show.

The cast and crew of this production is so extensive that it would be impossible to name them all here without filling the entire space with names. The ensemble cast, taking multiple roles, and sweeping us up in the magic of their extraordinarily fine song and dance, are, without exception, top-notch. Kudos to them all!

The look of the musical, with the awe-inspiring sets, sound, lighting and special effects, was breathtaking; the costumes were amazing in their colour, detail and functionality; the music was superb, not only in the songs, but in setting mood and tone; and the energetic, finely honed choreography captured and delighted the audience at every turn. The direction, stage management, and coordination of the innumerable elements present in this production are mind-boggling. Congratulations to the entire company for bringing Vancouver such a professionally boisterous, exuberant, and heart-warming experience. Broadway has truly made it to The Stanley!
