The Vancouver Symphony is for all ages--from babies to octogenarians. I've been to Tea and Trumpets, catering to seniors like myself. I've enjoyed mostly the VSO Pops and Special Presentations. And I've sat and enjoyed the more classical Baroque music.

For a change, I wanted to see another side to VSO's programmes, and start educating my 2-year old granddaughter Maia with her first VSO concert. It turned out to be both educational and fun. Professional music educators and musicians, Lisa Allison and Linda Sebenius in their own musical style for kids, taught them the different instruments and afterwards, got them to sing and dance in this 45-minute show.

Tiny Tots is a 4-concert series for children up to four years of age, focusing on fun and music education for early childhood development. It was an interesting experience for Maia, her first VSO concert. At first, she was shy, putting her fingers in her mouth as a sign that she wasn't comfortable with the ambience. But as soon as she saw the little tots participating, she started clapping and jumping with them.

I'm sure as I take her more often she'll get in tune with a love for music and will want to eventually plead "Yoyo (that's her way of saying Grandpa to me) let's go see another VSO concert."
