VANCOUVER PREMIERE OF NUTCRACKER:  TRULY SPECTACULAR!

By Ed Farolan

This spectacular co-production of Alberta Ballet and Ballet BC is a ballet you won't forget.  I've seen two other productions--one in Montreal, and one done by the Royal Winnipeg ballet, but I must say "Hats off!" to this production. Mikko Nissinen, Artistic Director of Alberta Ballet, did an astounding job in choreographing this show.  He said he added new and fresh elements on stage, and this enhanced the ballet's two-hour performance. The magic combined with the traditional classical style enthused an appreciative opening night Vancouver audience.  The costumes were beautiful and colorful, and the sets magnificent. Applause were warm, and the audience, despite the restlessness of the children, enjoyed the performance and were very receptive to the approach. This was truly a delightful and charming evening and I must say go and see the ballet.  It's a family Christmas affair, and it runs only till the 10th.
