Karen Flamenco (aka Karen Pitkethly) has done something innovative in her company, by fusing flamenco to ballet, opera and Broadway musicals. In last Thursday's "demo", she gave us snipets of productions in the past-- Carmen, West Side Story, Swan Lake and Alice in Wonderland, as well as a segment from its upcoming new production in June, Snow White.

It was an exhilarating 50-minute show, with a humorous magician/narrator introducing each segment. I liked the flare and the colourful costumes, and I could see that Pitkethly did a great job training her dancers. .The singer and the guitarist were also superb as they accompanied the dancers do their steps.

This company is different from the other Flamenco companies in Vancouver where the Flamenco tradition is more prevalent. The humour injected in this fusion of flamenco and the classics makes this troupe unique from the rest.
