This noon hour series featured the art of flamenco with a performance by Flamenco Rosario. The company honours the authentic traditions of flamenco unlike a lot of new companies where "fusion" seems to be the style these days.
This company run by husband and wife team Rosario Ancer and Victor Kolstee has been in existence for almost 30 years, and every September, it produces a Flamenco Festival with special Flamenco guest dancers from Spain.
This one-hour show had three senior dancers of the company dance together in the beginning and end scenes, with their exotic red Flamenco dresses. Later, each one changed to a different dress and did solos accompanied by a singer and Kolstee on the guitar. Rosario joined the last dance and the four dancers ended the programme.
The question and answer session was more of a lecture by Ancer and Kolstee about the different beats of the flamenco and how the guitarist has to coordinate to the dancer's moves. There were just two questions asked, and although others would have wanted to ask more questions, the session had to end abruptly. Perhaps the theatre was needed for other purposes.
Enhorabuena to Rosario Ancer and Victor Kolstee for this magnificent show, and for these almost 30 years developing Flamenco in Vancouver. ¡Hasta la próxima!
